The Advantage Podcast Mixtape: Vol II - Jeff Yass, Boaz, Antonino, and More
More picks
Jeff Yass - Bet the Process - Trading and Sports
Jeff Yass is the founder of Susquehanna. Yass would be one of the Mount Rushmore Risk of Ruin guests (that will likely also never be ROR guests). In the 1980s, he got backed off from a race track in Illinois for beating up on their longshot pools. Then he became a billionaire from trading and SIG. In this episode he talks about sports but sprinkles in some nuggets about EV in general. Also, a lot of his comments have become more relevant in recent years as exchanges have grown in popularity in sports.
His segment in the episode picks up at around 26 minutes.
Yoshi - Gambling With an Edge - Card Counting
All gamblers - advantage and recreational - are impacted by variance. Yoshi’s story is one of the crazier ones when it comes to variance impacting his early card counting career. If you are familiar with the concepts of hourly rate in card counting, try to do some mental math as to what Yoshi’s hourly rate should have been, based on what he was betting, and then how much he made in addition to that.
Spoon - The Business We’ve Chosen - Sports and Some Casino AP
Maybe some chip ratholing at baccarat discussed here?
Chris Bruno - Be Better Bettors - Bookmaking
Just a crazy story from an actual bookie that got caught and served time.
Boaz Weinstein - Masters in Business - Public Markets, Comments on Taleb
Boaz has some short comments on advantage play as well as chess, but I think the most interesting parts of the interview are his comments about his own strategy - and also how he views various Taleb/Spitznagel/Universa comments about their returns.
Mohan Srivastiva - GWAE - Lottery scratchers
There are now various well known stories of people beating lotteries (here, and here for instance), but sometimes the APs are just arbing the expected payout size versus the likely number of entrants. This story is actually about reverse engineering the lotto scratchers and figuring out that they were not random.
Todd Simkin - Capital Allocators - More on Susquehanna
Todd has traded a number of various markets and also been involved in education at SIG.
SD1 - Blackjack Apprenticeship - Casino AP
SD1 is a co-host of this podcast now, but this episode was the first time he appeared on the BJA podcast and told his story of becoming a casino AP.
Vagabond - Gambling With an Edge - AP outside the U.S.
Various discussion of things like shuffle tracking, and done in casinos in Asia and elsewhere.
Antonino De Rosa - The Risk Takers Podcast - Sharp sports books, sharp betting
Antonino is one of the Magic: The Gathering players that spent time at Pinnacle Sports. He talks about his time at Pinnacle, as well as his move to the other side of the counter and running a syndicate. This is a recent episode but I really enjoyed it.

Loving this series.
