This is true although one thing I appreciate about Des Moines is that it hasn't given up its Iowa-ness. I like to hit Fong's Pizza in downtown, which to be fair you could pluck from any hipster neighborhood in any city. But I also like to go to Smoky D's in Ankeny. I don't get the hamballs, but I appreciate that they haven't sanitized their menu and continue to serve a dish that raises eyebrows if you mention it to a non-Iowan.
